Every year on my daughter’s birthday (at least for the three she’s had so far), I make a point of dressing her up in cute clothes, plunking her somewhere somewhat photogenic and doing my best to get some good pictures of her.
On her first birthday, that was a pretty easy task. After all, she couldn’t walk yet.
Last year, it was somewhat more challenging, but I got a few nice candids.
And this year? Well, this year it was almost impossible, but I was determined.
This one has the potential to be nice, if only I can figure out how to clone away the bag, bubbles and plastic chairs from the background.
Look - it's her teenager smile, a few years early.
Then we got into the goofy face phase.
Tori hams it up
But at long last, we got to a good one – or at least, one I think is good. It’s not perfect, but it is totally her.
Tori at three. Cute, smiley, and completely unable to sit still.
Here’s to another crazy year in my career as a mom.

For weeks, when we asked Tori what she wanted to be for Halloween, she said one of two things: superhero or princess.
So, being the overachieving parents we are, we decided to make her a Superhero Princess costume.
Said costume started with a sparkly red cape. Included a floofy red white and blue tutu. It even had a crown and arm bands. But when it was done? She wanted nothing to do with it. In fact, she cried every time we put the cape on her.
There was only one superhero in our house. The dog.
So I did what many a frazzled Super Mom has done before me. I logged on to Amazon and bought her a costume. And not the cute, cuddly lion costume I wanted to bundle her in.
Nope, I went all out Princess. I bought the long, ribbon-festooned dress. The tiara and wand. I even got her fairy wings (for extra credit).
And she loved the dress. And the wings. And the crown. She pranced around the house on Saturday, saying, “I a pwincess!”
But when Halloween came? There was only one part of the costume she would agree to wear.
The dress. But heck, she sparkles enough without all the accessories.
Fortunately, it was the biggest part. And she did look pretty dang cute.
She also loved every minute of the trick or treating. So much that she wants to do it again. And again. And again. Which means I have made her cry again and again and again by telling her Halloween only comes once a year.
It’s tough being two.
