Because There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays: Monster Giveaway!

I love the holidays. Love them with a capital “L.” When it’s time to put up the Christmas tree, I get just as excited as my four-year-old daughter. Then, once the decor’s complete, I like nothing better than to turn off all the overhead lights, turn on some Christmas music, and bask in the glow of the twinkling tree.

That’s usually when the first cat starts vomiting up the plastic needles he just feasted on.

I love Christmas cookies, too. It’s with a joyful heart that I skip into the grocery store, looking for butter and sugar and glittery sprinkles. Then I come back home, find fantastic recipes on Pinterest, and haul my daughter into the kitchen for an afternoon of baking. She digs in, cracking eggs, scooping flour, and stealing sugar when she thinks I’m not looking.  It’s the stuff memories are made of.

We usually make it a whole 20 minutes before she gets bored and I’m left to make 50 bajillion cookies all by myself. Cookies I no longer want by the time they’re done.

And then there’s the gift giving. I love the moment when a loved one rips into a (sloppily wrapped) package and finds the perfect present. I wrack my brains for hours, days, even weeks, trying to find just the right thing. I set up Google alerts, looking for deals. Scout Etsy endlessly. And, of course, scour local stores for gems.

But I’m a Libra. Which means that making decisions is painful for me (roll your eyes all you want. Every Libra I know is the same way). That’s why I’m always pulling my hair out in the final hours, thoughtlessly ordering anything that might do on Amazon (what would I do without you, Amazon Prime?).

In other words, while the holidays are magical and fun and awesome, they’re also a lot of work. And stressful. And downright exhausting. We can use every bit of help we can get, amIright?

I know I am.

We have a KitchenAid Artisan mixer (ours is green) and love it. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve baked with its help.

I’m really excited about Christmas this year. Halloween just didn’t feel right for some reason, and I usually love Halloween. Maybe it was the weather, but it just snuck up on me and then trick or treating was postponed. Blah.

But Thanksgiving was great, and I’m in the holiday mood. We put up our tree and decorations this weekend. The outside lights look great, thanks to the after Christmas sales last year. The boys are at a perfect age where they are totally into Christmas. They are old enough to get it and still young enough to believe. Christmas is magic for them.

We took them to see Santa at the mall yesterday. And they wrote letters to Santa that we mailed. They helped put the tree and the decorations up. Actually, they woke us up Sunday morning asking if we could put the tree up because it was finally December 1st (our rule is no tree until December 1).

We’re doing a reading advent where they get to open a book each day, and we try to read it (although the chapter books will take a little longer to get through). And “Aunt” Becky gave them 25 Days of Christmas, with a small gift to open every day through Christmas. Today’s was dreidels. They loved playing with them.

My Christmas music has been playing since I finally got it loaded back on my phone (stupid phone didn’t want to sync that playlist). Christmas specials have been watched pretty much every day since Thanksgiving (because Christmas isn’t legal until Thanksgiving is over).

I’m with you on the loving Christmas. Lots of warm fuzzies, family, joy.

I love your blog and I love your writing. My mother-in-law swears by her Kitchen Aid mixer and has made me want one for myself. Would make baking those 50 bajillion cookies a lot easier for me during the holidays. Happy Holidays to you!
