Spring at the Zoo.

Yesterday dawned bright and sunny, with a temperature headed into the sixties. My parents were visiting, and after a  long winter of sitting on the couch, all any of us wanted to do was to get out and  enjoy some sunshine. So since my mom, a zoo aficionado extraordinaire, has been waiting to take Tori to the zoo since the moment I announced I was pregnant, there was only one thing to do.

Go to the zoo. The Indianapolis Zoo, to be exact.

We got up close and personal with lots of animals:

Tori learned a new vocab word – warthog (although it sounds more like "group hug.")

monkeys at the Indianapolis Zoo

Sure these monkeys look innocent…but the little one was determined to teach the kids about masturbation.

giraffes at the Indianapolis Zoo

These are really big puppies with beaks, according to Tori.

walrus at the Indianapolis Zoo

Walruses. So gorgeous underwater. So ridiculous looking on land.

And grandma and Tori got to spend lots of quality time together.

This was the view I saw most often.

But this? This picture sums up exactly what made the afternoon so perfect:

If ever there was a picture that didn't need a caption, this is it.

It’s moments like that that make all the temper tantrums, sleepless nights and splitting headaches worthwhile. So that was my weekend. How was yours?

The last photo should be sent in to every photo contest ever. And it should win.

It really is a great zoo! They’re opening a splash park this summer too. It looks like a lot of fun.

As long as she doesn’t ask if we can bring one of those home…
